Start from the customer's problem, not the product
Energy solutions are too often sold on technical specifications. A B2B customer does not buy a solar panel — they buy a predictable energy cost, self-sufficiency, or a sustainability target met. When the service is packaged around the customer's business benefit, pricing breaks free from pure equipment competition and margins improve.
Build a scalable operating model before volume
The bottleneck for growth is usually not demand but delivery capacity. Before scaling sales, make sure these are in order:
- Lead generation and qualification — clear criteria for what a good customer looks like.
- Pricing model — transparent, repeatable and margin-protecting.
- Contractor and installation network — sufficient capacity and consistent quality.
- Delivery and invoicing process — automated as far as possible.
When these work, growing sales does not break your deliveries.
Profitability is created in the process, not in a single deal.
A partner network is capacity — and a risk
A nationwide contractor network brings capacity faster than in-house hiring. But a network is only as good as its weakest delivery. Partner selection, onboarding, quality assurance and incentives decide whether the network produces results or complaints.
Measure margin, not just revenue
In the energy business, revenue can grow while margin leaks into installation and warranty costs. Track margin at the product and partner level, and you will see where the money is really made — and where it disappears.
